Charge On The Fly
The new Icarus Charge on the Fly is available now. It offers two fast USB charging ports for your inflight devices such as iPads and phones. It supports the Power Delivery (PD) protocol on a USB-C port with 30 watts available to quickly charge your devices. It also includes a standard USB-A port that also supports QCX 3.0 for fast charging of Android devices.
Charge on the Fly installs in less than a minute. You simply plug the charger into your ANR headset LEMO jack in your aircraft. Then plug your headset into the mating connector on the charger. The headset audio signals pass straight through the charger into the audio panel. The internal USB charger gets its power from the ship’s headset jack. A cable between the charger and your device(s) completes the installation.
All modern iPads and iPhones support the Power Delivery protocol for very fast charging. These include the iPad mini 5, iPad Pro 10.5” and larger, and the 3rd generation iPad Air. Any of these iPads that use the Lightning power connector are compatible with Charge on the Fly’s PD when using a Lightning to USB-C cable. The USB-C devices utilize the charge cable that they came with or a shorter version, if desired.
With Charge on the Fly, there is no panel metal cutting along with the accompanying installation time and costs associated with a panel mounted charger. You can take advantage of Power Delivery charging immediately with Charge on the Fly.
Two precut strips of 3M DualLock adhesive backed mounting tape is supplied to securely attach the charger to your aircraft if desired. The charger can be easily removed with this tape.
A TBM-700/850/Lear version is available as an upgrade for the original charger built into the Icarus iPad mounting system that is powered from the map light on the yoke. This allows modern iPads to be charged via the fast Power Delivery protocol. The USB-A and USB-C ports are identical to those on the “in-line” version described above. This version is also self installable.
